The SYL main office at Sectors 26 was engaged in the routine, and the main officers were conducting a meeting on the second floor. At that time four Sikh Militants reached the building, they were being led by Bhai Balwinder Singh Jattana and Bhai Charanjeet Singh Channi. On the second floor they were stopped by the helper Bhola Prasad. Bhola Prasad was scared beyond his wits when he looked at the pistols in their hands so he rushed back and jumped off from second floor. Just in seconds the Singhs entered the conference room and assassinated MS Sikkri- the chief engineer of SYL (many pleas were sent to them to stop the construction of SYL). In addition the Avtar Singh Aulakh one the others were also killed. After this the Sikhs went back.
The assassination of the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal engineer under the leadership of Bhai Sahib Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana was in the interest of the entire Punjabi community. If the SYL was completed, it would have destroyed the agriculture of Panjab. Impressed by Bhai Sahib’s selfless struggle and Gursikhi life, Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Babbar appointed Bhai Sahib as the head of the organization in the Malwa region.
Nowadays in the media the political ‘bravehearts’ are spreading rumors that they have done this and that against the plunder of Panjab’s water through the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal. But in fact all these people have been making calculated dramas. No one has fought hard. When a meeting of the militant Singhs was held about the construction of the canal, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar had taken the responsibility himself. Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana, Bhai Jagtar Singh Panjola, Bhai Balvir Singh Fauji Makraud and Bhai Harmeet Singh Bhaowal. Not a single brick was built for the canal after the Singh invasion.
Badal, Barnala, Captain and all the others were playing political tricks but the Singhs saved the water of Punjab. Because it is clear that the Indian regime is committed to making Punjab barren. You never know when the heirs of Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana, Bhai Jagtar Singh Panjola, Bhai Balvir Singh Fauji Makroor, Bhai Harmeet Singh Bhaowal will announce the resistance that whoever wants to plunder the water of Punjab should read the history of Punjab. They don’t even spare the real brothers for water.
Thousands of Sikh militants have been martyred during the Sikh Armed Struggle. Many of the militants on this long list have been repeatedly influencing the Sikh psyche for carrying out an important task. The issue of Panjab’s waters is burning in Punjab these days. This issue has been a source of turmoil in Punjab politics from the very beginning. The Sutlej-Yamna Link canal, which was laid by Indira Gandhi and started by the Barnala government, was stopped by the militants.
